From the Committee December 2016

From the Committee December 2016

.

There are some very intrepid members in our Club who will not be deterred with any change in weather conditions. As we all know, the weather here in southern Spain is about the best for the whole of Europe. However on the 3rd of December, our Club run day, we all woke up to the most torrential rainstorm that nobody had seen for twenty years.

We have never in all the years of our existence cancelled a monthly Club run, in fact we have had very wet starts on a few occasions only to find that the run attendance was larger than normal. This December Club run, instigated by Jim and Charlene was different, as a small group faced the rain. In fact the atmosphere was that of a private party, everyone very happy indeed.

We were very lucky to find that inland the rain had stopped as we pulled up into the National Park overlooking the lakes, for our Cava stop. Your Chairman took the opportunity to award the member best dressed for Christmas, to Kay.

Duly refreshed we made our way back out of the National Park and to the main road where we continued our way to the Donkey Sanctuary. This was a very straight forward run with no complicated and difficult roads to navigate and thanks to Roy for his very professional rendition of the Road Book. The road leading up to the sanctuary was unmade therefore we had to take some care

We had arranged, via Nick, to have a conducted tour of the Sanctuary We were very pleased to meet, on arrival, our Tour guide Rosa Chaparro who gave a very detailed explanation of the origins of the sanctuary, explaining that it had been set up on the instigation of the Donkey Sanctuary in Sidmouth England.

We all agreed that the animals were very well looked after and were sorry to see some of the photographs of recent arrivals in poor health.

Your Chairman on return home sent a brief thank you to Rosa. If any member wishes to take children or grandchildren to the Sanctuary, they will be more than welcome. Rosa returned a very nice reply copied below for all to share;-

Thank you so much Qasim for come all your way to El Refugio, visit us and our rescued animals. It was lovely to meet you all and get to know more about the Classic Car Club. Such a lovely and fun concept! Hope you enjoyed the visit and also the lunch in Fuente de Piedra. The photos are lovely. Thanks for sending them! Hope next time you come with the group the weather is better. We could do a picnic in the Sanctuary and a grooming sessions with our animals. In spring, is very worthy to visit also the Lake, la Laguna de Fuente de Piedra, as the flamingos come from Africa and is a fantastic experience to watch them! I am sending to you the information about our open grooming days. Hopefully you can come with your family. Thanks again and hope you have a lovely Christmas,

Looking Ahead Club Christmas Party on the 14th December at the Valparaiso Mijas – Meet at Valparaiso at 7.30pm for drinks a canapes

We have negotiated €30 for members and €40 for non-members. All friends and family are welcome but please let Carol know of your intentions, as we have to inform the Restaurant of the numbers involved.

  2. Ladies and Gentlemen this is your opportunity to dress for our annual event. For Gentlemen, DJ’s are not mandatory but would be appreciated. There will be music and dancing and entertainment including our own Barry Reading. The Valparaiso has undergone refurbishment. The Menu is attached below and Ray has organised overnight accommodation at a nearby hotel.

  3. Venue and Time for Club Meet and AGM on Wednesday 11th Jan 2017 at 1.30 p.m. at the “El Jinete”.

  4. The “El Jinete” needs no introduction as we have held our first lunch meeting last October. Comments from members were very favourable largely due to the excellent service and good value provided by the establishment. We have organised the same room we used last time and the manager has offered us exclusive use. We hope you will come along because this is your opportunity to express your views to the existing Committee and to suggest new ideas.
