From the Committee November 2016
Our November run was a joint undertaking with the Jaguar Enthusiasts Club (JEC), and what a turnout it was. The two Clubs, both with like-minded car enthusiasts, were glad to be out and about in the warm November sunshine. Philip Wray, Andalucian Regional Director, of the JEC, had expended considerable effort in finding a beautiful and challenging route. Your Chairman was very glad of the decision to leave the Bentley at home as some of the roads were simply not suitable, besides the car had had an outing a week earlier to our mid week Lunch Meet.
That nicely leads us on to the subject of our newly instigated Lunch Meets. This is the second time we have met for lunch and again it was a very good turnout. We had arranged the October meeting to be west of the Marbella tunnel as a number our members live in that direction. Given the positive reaction we intend to continue with our monthly mid week lunchtime meets.
As usual, in January we will be holding our Annual General Meeting (AGM). This year we intend to hold our meeting at the the “El Jinete” on Wednesday the 11th of January 2017 at 1.30pm. All Club Committee posts will be open for any member to stand for election. So please give a little thought over the Christmas and New Year period on how you could contribute and bring ideas to our Club. We are all very grateful to the time and effort Ray and Carol and Paula put into our Club. The Club would not be what it is without them. Our Club is unique in that it is by the members for the members and there are no exclusive little groups, we are all friends of each other with varied backgrounds but a common interest in Classic cars. More importantly, we are not just a British Club as we have a number of Nationalities of equally enthusiastic members.
November Run from El Trapiche to Torrox Costa
Municipal buildings in Competa
Philip and Jenny Wray, of the JEC met SOL members on the A356 near Lake Vinuela. We had all started our journey early in the morning so as to allow plenty of time to get to the start, only to find that we were one of the first arrivals. The route took us past Arenas, Competa and Frigliana finishing at TKs restaurant, by Laguna Beach at Torrox Costa, for an excellent lunch.
The Run was only about fifty miles but it took a couple of hours. As usual there was a Cava and crisps stop to enable members to appreciate the view.
3rd December Run by Jim and Charlene Sutton to the Donkey Sanctuary
We will be meeting at the BP station Alhaurin Golf at 10.00am to leave at 10.45am. Registration closes at 10.30am. As it is the Christmas Run members are asked to dress their cars with a few baubles or other Christmas decorations. You could also dress in Christmas Jumpers or any other Christmas attire, or do both. A prize will be given for the best-dressed car or person.
There will be a drinks stop on the side of the road before continuing on to the Donkey Sanctuary where there is plenty of parking. This is a wonderful place to visit and to see the amazing good work these people do in dealing some of the most awful cases of cruelty. You will be given a guided tour so a 3eu per person Donation would be appreciated. A photo will be taken for our club web page. If you have unwanted books in good condition please can you donate them to their Gift Shop.
Venue and Time for Club Annual General Meeting (AGM) on Wednesday 11th Jan 2017 at 1.30 p.m. at the “El Jinete”.
The “El Jinete” needs no introduction as we have held our first lunch meet there in October.
Comments from members were very favourable largely due to the excellent service and good value provided by the establishment. We have organised the same room we used last time and the Manager has offered us exclusive use. We hope you will come along to the AGM as this is your opportunity to express your views to the existing Committee and suggest new ideas. Lunch will be served after the meeting.
Club Christmas Party on the 14th December at the Valparaiso Mijas

The subsidised cost is €30 for members and €40 for non-members. All friends and family are welcome but please let Carol know of your intentions, as we have to inform the Restaurant of the numbers involved. firstname.lastname@example.org
