SOL Classic Car Club Almond Blossom Drive.
Saturday 20 January saw a wonderful selection of SOL members classic cars gathered in Calahonda at the Centro Comercial Los Olivos for breakfast.
Leaving at 11.15am the cars commenced a 108 km drive organized by Mike Glithero and Sue Gerrard passing the “Lady In The Bath” then onto Mijas Golf, up the back road via La Algueria to the Mijas road having seen stunning sea views and the early Almond Blossom and on through Alhaurin El Grande to The Ginger Pig at Coin for a coffee stop.
Refreshed they continue up the Camino Rural Rio Grande road with it`s amazing fruit farms and rolling hills to Alozaina through the famous arches and down the sweeping bends of the A366 passing by Tolox and turning up to Guaro, Monda where the “Almond Blossom Festivals” take place on the first week end of February.
A much needed sherry stop took place after 89km near the “tower folly” close to Alhaurin Golf with great mountain views and marvelous sunny weather and 20c.
Ready for lunch the last 19kms saw the cars pass La Cala and arrive in convoy at 3pm to a cordoned of parking area in Centro Comercial Los Olivos. Many a local resident,and shoppers admired the display of cars while Alfonsoo and his team revived the 30 members with a superb 3 course meal.
Two English holidaymakers (having heard about the run on Global Radio) travelled by 2 buses from Benalmadena to see the classics and were rewarded by Nick Wadham with a seat in his wonderful 1950`s P4 Rover called “Rosie” for the whole 108km drive, stating to Mike Glithero “what a wonderful un-expected surprise”.
